The building has 2 street frontages; on 9th Street residential ground floor ‘townhouse’ units create door yards to humanize and activate the street, on W Street ground floor retail continues the character of the new W Street retail. The building façades are comprised of 2 story alternating diagonal bays that offer views for the residents up and down the narrow 9th Street and result in a rich and playful alternating pattern of windows, balconies, and colors. The repeating rippling pattern takes its inspiration from the music reverberating out of the local club.

Located on the edge of the vibrant U Street Historic District, 9th and W completes the urban block behind the iconic 9:30 Club music venue with a 312-unit residential mixed-use building. The building design responds to the diverse conditions of the context surrounding the site: the existing historic urban fabric to the south, the new taller buildings to the north, and the nearby residential townhouses.

An elaborate roof top amenity deck not only offers club room, pool, and views over downtown; it is an important factor in the LEED Gold rating for the building; extensive green roofing and planted areas manage stormwater, provide increased insulation, and reduce heat island effect.
